Preparing Your Body for Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a big change for a woman’s body – growing another human is hard work – so preparing as much as you can to offer yourself (and your baby) the best possible start is an important thing to begin with.

Here at NutraCare, we are dedicated to helping new mothers to feel their best while nurturing their child, and we know that preparation is important. There are a few steps that you can take both before you get pregnant and throughout the pregnancy.

Make Healthy Changes

Preparing to become pregnant means becoming healthier in all areas of your life. This means that you should quit smoking and reduce alcohol consumption. Being as healthy as possible when working towards pregnancy is especially important, and everyone knows that quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your own health – and the health of your child.

Excessive alcohol consumption, especially in the early stages of pregnancy has been linked to birth defects and even miscarriage, so if you enjoy more than just a drink on occasion it is much healthier to cut right back.

Speak to a Doctor

Make sure that you make a doctor’s appointment early in your pregnancy preparations. Checking that you have a clean bill of health before trying for a baby gives you the best chance for a straightforward and healthy pregnancy.

Be clear that you are up to date on your vaccinations – some of the common diseases that can be vaccinated against are especially dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn babies, such as pertussis (whooping cough) and chicken pox.

If you have a gynaecologist, approach them regarding a Pap smear and maybe an UTI test.

Of course, you will need to stop using any contraception that you are currently on – especially hormonal as that can take a while to get out of your system.

Diet and Nutrition

Eating well and maintaining a healthy weight is important for getting pregnant, and for your health while you are pregnant.

Being both severely underweight and severely overweight can have detrimental effects on your chances of getting pregnant and could lead to other complications too.

Expectant mothers need more nutrients – including minerals and vitamins. That is where our PregmaPlus+ 1 can make a real difference. Offering 21 of the most important vitamins, minerals and supplements to help expectant mothers – especially when swallowing pills is difficult.

This includes multiple vitamins including vitamin A, C, E and several essential B vitamins. We have also included folic acid, essential for neural tube development and active morning sickness relief.

Keeping up with healthy, regular meals throughout pregnancy will help balance weight gain and make sure that you stay as healthy as possible.

Exercise

Keeping up with your regular exercise schedule is important, not only for your physical health but also for your mental health too.

Always consult a doctor before starting a new exercise regime, but whatever exercise that you can manage will have positive effects on you and your pregnancy.

Reduce Stress

This might seem difficult – pregnancy is stressful – but reducing the risk of stress in your life will make your pregnancy easier. Don’t arrange to move to a new house or find a new job when you are considering pregnancy.

Whatever steps you need to take to prepare your body for pregnancy, here at NutraCare we are here to support you every step of the way throughout different stages of pregnancy.
