As a multi-stage supplement, PregmaPlus+ has been scientifically formulated to uniquely support your changing nutritional requirements at each stage of your pregnancy journey.
NutraCare recognises that almost 30 per cent of people have difficulty or an inability to take tablets. Being soluble you only need to drink your supplement, which everyone can do easily, and the liquid format can also assist in more rapid absorption. Your nutritional requirements can increase up to 50 per cent during pregnancy. While PregmaPlus+ is not a substitute for a healthy well-balanced diet, some vitamins and minerals are near impossible to obtain from food alone, especially when your active lifestyle means it may be difficult to get the nutrition you need.
Stage 2, 2nd and 3rd Trimester
After the first trimester your baby is growing more rapidly. Its brain and spinal cord are more developed, and by the 13th week your placenta is fully developed and ready to take over feeding your foetus. Development of the placenta usually accompanies the end of your morning sickness phase. As your baby grows, the amount of blood in your system grows, your baby’s bones are developing more, hopefully your morning sickness has passed, and your increased hormone levels can be causing you fatigue. Your breasts will also start to change and swell and sometimes become more sensitive as your glands prepare for producing milk for your future child. All these changes mean your nutritional requirements alter dramatically in your second and third trimester.
PregmaPlus+ Stage 2 has uniquely differentiated scientific formulations to meet your changed nutritional requirements in this critical stage of your pregnancy journey.
Everything your doctor recommends and more
By 12 weeks your baby’s spinal cord has developed and the elevated levels of Folic Acid in Stage 1 are no longer required. However continued supplementation with 400 μg (micrograms) of folic acid in your second and third trimester can maintain your necessary folate status and help prevent the increase in homocysteine concentration that can otherwise occur in late pregnancy. As the world’s first multistage soluble supplement, PregmaPlus+ Stage 2 uniquely lowers the level of folic acid to 300mcg per day to meet your changing nutrition requirement.
After your first trimester, your iron requirements rise steadily; your iron requirements can quadruple in the second trimester and can increase by 50 per cent again in the third trimester. Importantly, how much iron your body absorbs also changes. Your reduced iron absorption in the first trimester changes to a greater absorption throughout the remainder of pregnancy. The amounts of iron that can be absorbed from even an optimal diet, are often less than you require later in your pregnancy. It is recommended you enter pregnancy with iron stores of ≥ 300 mg if you are to fully meet your requirements. Stage 2, includes a low constipation iron which equals or exceeds the level of iron of other leading brands’ pregnancy supplement tablets to assist in maintaining the right amount of iron in your system in your second and third trimester.
As your baby grows at an increased rate during the second and third trimester, your calcium requirement increases. The body will provide daily doses between 50 and 330 mg to support your baby’s developing foetal skeleton. To meet this high foetal demand for calcium in your pregnancy, a daily consumption of 1000 mg calcium for pregnant and lactating women at an age over 19 years is recommended especially during the second and third trimester of pregnancy and during lactation. Calcium supplementation in pregnancy has also been associated with a reduced risk of pregnancy-induced hypertension, and some reports show that calcium supplementation in pregnancy protects against low-birthweight and can lower blood pressure in newborns. Calcium supplementation as part of your antenatal care is also recommended for the prevention of pre-eclampsia, particularly among those at higher risk of developing hypertension. Stage 2 has elevated levels (almost 50 per cent more per day) of calcium to assist with your increased recommended calcium intake during these critical months in your baby’s development.
Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are common across the globe with large studies revealing the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnant and lactating mothers. Vitamin D requirements are higher especially in the second and third trimesters. Enhanced intestinal calcium absorption, and the enhanced foetal calcium all point to the importance of vitamin D in the second and third trimester of your pregnancy. The relationship between low vitamin D and adverse maternal outcomes such as pregnancy induced hypertension, high blood pressure in diabetic pregnancy, gestational diabetes, preterm delivery and postpartum depression has been documented in recent years. In healthy women, vitamin D can be supplemented daily in the second and third trimesters, without fear of vitamin D toxicity. No safety data is available for the first trimester. PregmaPlus+ Stage 2 has 50 per cent elevated levels of vitamin D to assist and support your increased requirement in your second and third trimester. It uniquely has more vitamin D than any of the leading pregnancy multivitamins.
DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid, is an omega 3 fatty acid that assists in brain development of your foetus. The third trimester is when DHA accretion, or absorption, is at its greatest. PregmaPlus+ Stage 2, the world’s first multistage soluble supplement, uniquely elevates the level of DHA to almost double that of Stage 1 and provides higher levels of DHA than any of the leading pregnancy multivitamin supplements.
When do I take my PregmaPlus+ Stage 2?
Twice a day. Most women generally take their first easy glass in the morning and their second at afternoon tea or dinner time.
